Applying to College

Click on the links below to access the CommonApp, UC, and CSU websites and create an account ASAP.

The Common Application
--The Common Application is used by most private and some public colleges. As of 2014, it services over 500 colleges and universities. It requires info pertaining to your profile, family, education, activities, and test scores. It also includes the personal essay, arguably the most important piece of writing in your college application. Some private colleges also have a writing supplement you have to complete in addition to the common application. Check to see if any of your colleges require the common app, and get started as soon as possible. Remember, the best applications take time!

The UC Application--The UC Application is used by all UCs. Students do not have to fill out one application per each UC they are applying to; the application gets sent out to all the UCs the student applies to. It requires info pertaining to your profile, education, activities, test scores, and desired majors, much like the common application. It also includes two separate personal statements. Try to get started now; it is a lengthy application that requires a lot of time and effort.

Compiling a Brag Sheet
Brag Sheet Template--Click on this link to access your brag sheet template. A typical brag sheet will include awards, extracurriculars, community service, and work experience. Only include things that you have won/done in high school. You will need to provide the teachers you ask for recommendation letters with your brag sheet, so make sure you get started as soon as possible. Most colleges require two letters of rec from teachers, and one letter of rec from your counselor. Waiting until the last minute gives teachers less time to write you a thorough, thoughtful letter of rec. So get started and fill it out now!
